MASE spans the state with nine areas. Members are directors of special education and other administrators for special education in public or private schools, cooperative regional, state and other educational administrative units. Members also include other school administrators such as superintendents and central office leaders, college and university professors of special education teacher or administrator preparation programs, and Minnesota Department of Education employees.
MASE and MASA provide powerful professional support and a wide variety of benefits such as quality conferences, skill development workshops, informative publications, and state and national legislative advocacy. MASA membership also provides personal services, including legal consultation, liability insurance and life insurance. Choose from the following categories: Membership Options for 2024-25 MASE MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: MASE Active $480 This is a voting membership and permits members to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive all MASE publications; vote on all questions presented to the membership; chair or serve on MASE Committees; and run for a MASE elected office. Active Membership is open to any person who is licensed or employed as an administrator for special education or former administrator currently employed in another capacity serving children with disabilities. Active Membership includes the Director of Special Education of record, Assistant Directors of Special Education, Special Education Coordinators and other persons on administrative contract who oversee, direct, supervise or coordinate a program, school or classes for special education as a primary job responsibility. Membership benefits include:
MASE Associate $250 This is a non-voting membership and permits members in good standing to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive MASE publications; and serve on MASE committees. Associate Membership is open to any person in Minnesota who oversees, directs, coordinates or serves as a lead teacher for a program, school or classes for special education as a major job responsibility; and is employed as a “teacher on special assignment” (TOSA) or similar non-administrative contract arrangement. Persons with this membership do not have as a duty to evaluate staff. Associate Membership is also open to any person in Minnesota who is actively engaged in or associated with any phase of special education leadership, but who does not qualify for Active membership. Associate Membership includes college faculty members whose major responsibility is the professional preparation of administrators for special education, professional special education staff employed by the MN Department of Education, and general education administrators who serve in a public or private school, district, cooperative, regional, state, or other administrative unit. MASE Student $40 Student membership is open to any person in Minnesota who is a graduate student in the field of special education administration and who is not eligible for Active or Associate membership. This non-voting membership permits members to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive MASE publications; and serve on MASE committees. MASE Associate Out of State Membership $250 Non-Voting. Non-voting membership permits members in good standing to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive MASE publications; and serve on MASE committees. Associate Out of State Membership is open to any person working in a state other than Minnesota who is actively engaged in or associated with any phase of special education leadership MASA/MASE JOINT MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: MASE Active + MASA Active $1206 MASE Active + MASA Active Members typically elect the MASA Special Ed. Component Group but are free to choose whichever component group you would like. This is a voting membership in both organizations and provides the Active Member benefits of both MASE and MASA. An MASA Active Member can be any person who is a superintendent or central office administrator, in a public, private or parochial school system or regional, cooperative, or state agency. MASE Active Membership is open to any person who is licensed or employed as an administrator for special education or former administrator currently employed in another capacity serving children with disabilities. Active Membership includes the Director of Special Education of record, Assistant Directors of Special Education, Special Education Coordinators and other persons on administrative contract who oversee, direct, supervise or coordinate a program, school or classes for special education as a primary job responsibility. MASE Associate Plus MASA Active Membership $999 This membership is nonvoting in MASE, but voting in MASA. Non-Voting in MASE. Non-voting membership permits members in good standing to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive MASE publications; and serve on MASE committees. Associate Plus MASA membership is open to any person who is eligible for Associate Membership and also desires membership in the affiliate organization, the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA), or any MASA member who wishes to also be a MASE Associate Member. Associate Plus MASA members must also meet the membership requirements of MASA. Associate Plus MASA members receive all MASA member services and publications in addition to MASE services. ADD ON ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: National CEC/CASE $140 Active members of MASE are encouraged to become active members of the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE). CASE is an international professional educational organization which is affiliated with the Council for Exceptional Children and whose members are dedicated to the enhancement of the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of each individual in society. CASE has proven to be an effective influential organization that provides powerful support to its membership. The CASE mission is to provide leadership and support to members by shaping policies and practices, which impact the quality of education. CASE is open to all MASE active members. AASA Administrator $485 (WITH MASA/MASE JOINT MEMBERSHIP) AASA Small District (Less than 250 students) $241 Our national organization, the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), is a compelling voice for public education in Washington D.C., and provides a variety of valuable member resources for MASA Active members. This membership is for superintendents, although assistant and deputy superintendents are welcomed. Members in this category receive all AASA benefits and services, including:
AASA College Professor $215 (WITH MASA/MASE JOINT MEMBERSHIP) Our national organization, the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), is a compelling voice for public education in Washington D.C., and provides a variety of valuable member resources for MASA Active members. This membership is for professors of educational administration and/or supervision who are NOT currently employed in full-time school administration. Members in this category:
MASE RETIREE MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: MASE Retiree $40 Retired Membership is open to any individual who retires from their administrative position, or upon approval by the Board of Directors. This non-voting membership permits members in good standing to attend all MASE meetings, workshops and seminars; receive MASE publications; and serve on MASE committees. |
