MASE Member to Serve on Archdiocesan Commission on Students with Special Needs in Catholic Education
As a MASE member, special education director, and mother of Catholic school students, I am honored to participate in the Archdiocesan Commission on Students with Special Needs in Catholic Education. There is much to celebrate in what Catholic schools are doing and strive to do to support and serve a wider net of students—including seeking input and collaboration from those of us with expertise in the public school sector. With the recent heartache we feel as Catholic school parents, this is a great celebration of love and light in our community. I don't need any memo or note to mention me specifically... but I think it would be a great thing for our MASE community to know that one of our active MASE members / SpEd directors is involved in this commission and that we as public educators can also work on behalf of all kids including our nonpublic neighbors too. In addition, several Catholic schools in the state have started specialized programs for students with unique needs. The leaders at these schools are champions for disability education across educational systems.
